There is nothing more discouraging than being told what we are not good at, that we are terrible at doing something etc. The negative energy creates self-doubt and fear to explore, which is the exact opposite of what we want our coachee to do. By bring positive energy and an empowering perspective to every coaching session, we bring optimisim, confidence and motivation they need to achieve their goals. This is we learned in this webtorial as ‘Strength-Based Coaching’.
Strength-based coaching is an approach that focuses on identifying and leveraging individuals’ strengths, talents, and capabilities to facilitate personal and professional growth and development. Instead of primarily focusing on fixing weaknesses or deficits, strength-based coaching emphasizes building on existing strengths to achieve goals, overcome challenges, and enhance performance.
My diving coach always tells me to finish a training session with a good dive so as to leave good feeling of accomplishment. Coaching is the same. We want to encourage the coachee and motivate them into taking actions so that they finish the coaching session with confidence.
