The process of identifying a gap should be familiar to all of us. We do that in our everyday life. For example, when we want to buy a house, we search for a house we like, in the location that we want to live in, then we find out that we don’t have enough money in our bank account. The amount we don’t have in our bank account is The GAP.
Coaching is no different. We help our coachee identify a desirable goal or state. Then we help them assess where they currently are, how far away they are from their desired goal and what they need to have or do to get to that goal.
Then we break it down into smaller bite-size goals and milestones that are realistic and achievable, and partner with them to design an action plan that will achieve those mini-goals. We work with our coachee to monitor their progress and course-correct if necessary.
By going through the process, we help our coachee gain clarity on the gaps that exist between their current state and desired outcome, enabling them to develop a strategic and targeted approach to bridge those gaps and move closer to achieving their goals.
